Entity #053 - “The Face of God”

Description

Entity #053, known as “The Face of God,” is an inexplicable and presumably active phenomenon in which setting the Brightness property in the Lighting item of the workspace in Roblox Studio to any negative number will have a low but nonzero chance to cause a long, roundish shadowed face to appear on screen.

The face appears yellowish with dark areas taking on a reddish hue. It is enveloped in darkness, with its eyes hidden and its mouth appearing gaping or swallowed by shadow. The face is elongated with rounded facial proportions. Its origin remains unknown.

Discovery

Entity #053 was first discovered by a user on the Roblox Developer Forums between April and May of 2021. Shortly after the post was uploaded, it vanished—presumably removed by Roblox moderation. An archived version read:

The rumor spread underground under the name “The Dark Face.”

Social Media Incident

Five to six months later, a tweet surfaced reading “What the hell is this @Roblox” with an image captured via camera instead of screenshot. It reached nearly one thousand likes before deletion.

Roblox issued a reply which was deleted minutes later, followed by the original post’s removal.

Users later discovered the trigger: setting Lighting.Brightness to any negative integer. Images spread briefly before being purged. Some users were terminated for posting them.
